Pictorial emblems, symbols etc. in the centre sections, with explanatory text on sections to right and left. Frayed at folds with some slight loss. 540 The Enter’d Prentices Song. By our late Brother Mr. Mathew Birkhead, deceas’d. To be sung when all grave Business is over, and with the Master’s leave. Dublin : Printed by George Faulkner, Pembroke Court, Castle street. [1726?] Broadsheet, folio, printed on both sides (the verso having ‘The Fellow Crafts Song’) . Creased horizontally and vertically, fraying along edges, with some loss to blank corners, margins and folds. Ink-stain to blank right hand margin. Extremely rare £200 - 350


541 Cagliostro: A Masonic Anecdote (Caricature of Cagliostro and others at a meeting of the Lodge of Antiquity) 1786, approx. 20 x 18 inches. The original copper plate from which the engraving was printed (see Lot No 519, page 45 to see engraving from this plate) £600 - 800


542 Hannay, James. Complete Works of William Hogarth in a series of one hundred and fifty steel engravings from the original pictures: with an introductory essay by James Hannay, and descriptive letterpress by Rev. J Trusler and E F Roberts. London. Wiliam Mackenzie. Volumes I, II, III, IV, V and VI. Circa mid 1800’s (not the later versions). All volumes identical binding. Title gilt, Tan gloss cloth boards, gold bevelled edges, front has two line red and black border, central panel tan with very ornate leaf design corners, black/tan. Panel centre has impressed gilt bust of Hogarth against red background, with artist’s palette and two books, either side of bust, and very lavish gilt/red leaf design beneath. Half-title has superb b/w engraving ‘The Pieman’. Volume commences with a short biography of Hogarth. Volume illus. throughout, numerous exquisite engravings, each protected by a sheet of fine white paper (not tissue). Very good condition, slight bending of ridged corners and top of spines., some foxing in one or two volumes £100 - 200
