City of Portsmouth and Charlestowne Condominiums Agree on Repayment


Plan for Delinquent Utility Bills The Charlestowne Condominium Board of Directors has presented to the City a proposal to pay off its delinquent utility bills and bring its accounts current. The Association has implemented a special assessment on all condominium owners and will be making monthly payments of 25% of its delinquent amount as well as paying the full amount of its current bill. The proposal calls for the Association to pay all of its outstanding balances by June 15, 2014. The City has accepted the proposal from the Condominium Association and will not be turning off water service at this time.


Champion Russell Wilson HU Assistant Professor April Woodard had the opportunity to interview her nephew and NFL quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson for CBS Inside Edition.


A few days before the Super Bowl, Woodard traveled to the Westin Jersey City Newport, where the Seahawks prepare for their big match-up against the Denver Broncos.


“It was great to interview [Russell]. Most of the time we text and email about different things going on,” said Woodard, “As his aunt, I just want to know that he’s healthy and doing well.”

Available in Newport News The City is now taking applications for FY 2014 Cultural Attraction Fund grants. The application period is open until February 14, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants, from both public and private organizations, should be local, non-profit, 501c(3) organizations meeting the legal requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Internal Revenue Service, and the City of Newport News. The organization must provide programs/ projects description, scope and scale of event or capital need, and impact on the citizens of Newport News.


The FY 2014 Cultural Attractions Fund grants are to be used for one-time operational/project support and allow for continued efforts to identify additional financial resources to ensure ongoing viability of the venues, and as an incentive to encourage private fundraising and grant matching.

E-ZPass Transponders Suffolk Visitor Center and Suffolk Treasurer’s Offices now offers E-ZPass transponders for sale as a service to citizens as part of the E-ZPass On-the-Go program. E-ZPass On-the-Go provides an easy way for drivers to obtain an


E-ZPass transponder through select local


stores and businesses. E-ZPass will offer the lowest toll rate when tolling begins February 1, 2014 for both Midtown and Downtown tunnels.


E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system that makes paying tolls fast and easy through the use of a transponder that automatically deducts tolls from an account that can be connected to the user’s bank or credit card accounts. As they travel through the toll facilities, tolls are automatically deducted from their pre-paid E-ZPass account.


Drivers simply pay $35 and the E-ZPass can be used right away with $15 toll credit. The additional $20 is available for tolls when the transponder is registered online at www. EZPassVA.com or via telephone at 877-762-7824 or 800-828-1120 (for TTY users). Cash, check or credit card can be used for purchase of an E-ZPass.


Drivers can get prepaid E-ZPass transponders at select outlets for use on all toll roads in Virginia and 14 other states. The City of Suffolk joins other E-ZPass On-the-Go retailers in the Hampton Roads area such as the City of Chesapeake, City of Portsmouth, Pit Stop Convenience Stores, Creekmore Hardware and Norfolk Visitors Center.


The Suffolk Visitor’s Center is located at 524 North Main Street. The Suffolk Treasurer has offices in the Suffolk Municipal Building, 441 Market Street, and the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road.

“INK MASTER” Title in Season 4 Matti Hixson, who moved to Virginia Beach two years ago, confesses, “I like that I can do nice art work [on people] that they can be proud of and wear for the rest of their life.”


Spike TV’s hit original and the first tattoo reality- competition series “Ink Master” returns for a fourth season starting Tuesday, February 25 at 10 pm ET/ PT, and this time it’s going to be a street fight. Tattoo artists from around the country will battle it out in permanent ink and sometimes with each other for a $100,000 grand prize, an editorial feature in Inked and, of course, the bragging rights title of ‘Ink Master.’


History Month Norfolk, VA. —Norfolk Public Library (NPL) has planned a variety of events during February in recognition of Black History Month. Events reflect the 2014 theme “Civil Rights in America,” and include a Jeopardy!-style youth competition, a historical reenactment, book discussions, art and artifacts exhibits, films and documentaries on the black experience, and gospel concerts.


Entertainment is also planned with mass appeal to children, teens and adults. Dr. Anthony Hailey of Multicultural Performing Arts Consulting (MPAC) will offer World Music Workshop,


Each week “Ink Master” puts artist through a series of tattoo challenges that are not only designed to test the artists’ technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity, where they must create and execute an


original tattoo by command on a ‘Human Canvas.’ Each episode focuses on a different and distinct style of tattooing including realism, black and gray, geometric, neo-traditional, Asian and cover-up, among others. The masterpieces these artists create will last a lifetime, but so will their mistakes.


After every challenge, the contestants face a tough panel made up of series host Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and world renowned tattoo artists Chris Nunez (“Miami Ink”) and Oliver Peck (Elm Street Tattoo) who are joined by a roster of guest judges including CC Sabathia, Rob Zombie and Brandon Rios.
