tive change and authentic reform are almost a certainty.
Marrying the mindset and the actions Having the right mindset alone will not
accomplish the work. What comes next is pivotal – the prelude to executing leadership actions: the will, discipline and courage to act. Coaching and mentoring leaders must ask these tough questions: Do I have the will to …? Do I have the discipline to …? Do I have the courage to …? Affirmative answers will set the stage for
these three leadership actions: investing in the right people, nurturing the soul, and ef- fectuating transformative actions. If we are indeed the lead learners and
learning leaders, we have to start focusing on “being” rather than “doing,” on “growing” rather than “evaluating,” on enriching our inner-selves to foster congruency with our outer-selves, on inspiring thinkers rather than doers, and on cultivating rather than weeding.
Embracing leadership mindsets and ac-
tions undeniably makes our personal and professional journey to excellence a worth- while endeavor. When we lead by example with our head, heart and soul, we coach and mentor 21st century leaders far more passionately and powerfully than we ever thought possible. n
