Delta Health Initiatives Program meeting a success Delta organizations met to discuss challenges, opportunities


LAKE VILLAGE, Ar. – Organizations from


the Delta regions of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi met Sept. 5 at the Lake Village Expo Center in Lake Village for the inaugural Delta Health Initiatives Program conference. Participants discussed current health challenges and identified opportunities to work together to improve the health of citizens in the Delta. Speakers included Andy Allison, Arkansas Medicaid director; Ruth Kennedy, Louisi- ana Medicaid director; David Dzielak, MD, Mississippi Medicaid director; Congressman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.); and Chris Masingill, Delta Regional Authority chairman. Te Delta Funders Road Tour, a partnership between the Arkansas Community Foundation, the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation, the Walmart Foundation and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Community Ser- vice and Nonprofit Support, was on hand to provide attendees with an opportunity to meet representatives from each foundation and learn about potential grant opportunities. “Rural America deserves the best access to quality health care. Te Delta region in particu- lar is a critical artery of commerce for our entire country, and we must continue to work to find new and innovative ways to improve health care and access,” Crawford said. “I appreciate the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care for hosting this conference, which will serve as a meeting place for community leaders to come together, work across county and state lines to collaborate on ways to improve the lives of residents across this region. I look forward to working with my friends in Arkansas as well as Louisiana and Mississippi to work together on this important issue.” “Convening the three states of Arkansas,
