Changes to the rules of procedure TherulesofprocedureusedbytheFirst Tier Tribunalhavenow
changed.This is to simplify therules across all tribunals in theEnglish TribunalService.
ThenewTribunalhas strongercasemanagementpowersandimproved sanctions todealwithparties that fail to complywith theRules. Ithas theflexibility to regulate itsownprocedure;maysummonwitnesses; and, reviewitsowndecisions (theaimofwhichmaybeto reducethe number ofappeals). Inaddition,with theUpper Tribunal’sagreement, caseswhichinvolve complex(andpotentiallyappealable)pointsof lawmaybereferredupto thenextlevelwithoutasubstantivehearing beforetheFirstTierTribunal–designedto save time.
