At Hitchin Rugby Club we take great pride in our work across the wider community, both directly linked to rugby and also to the benefit of the community for programmes linked to the values of our club. We have a long heritage of schools outreach programmes stretching back many years as this Academy Annual Report from 2004 demonstrates.


In recent years the club has benefited from the generous support of our sponsors LV=, who as a major employer in Hitchin also have a shared interest community and schools.

This support enabled us to trial an innovative Schools Programme in 2012. Utilising the specialist expertise of the coaching team at Sports 121, the trial proved to be highly successful. As a result, we are delighted to say that this programme is being extended to include some 30 primary schools in the North Herts area and to include other sports (not just rugby).


We invite your school to join this flagship programme.


The programme is built on the ‘Olympic Values’ of: ‘Respect, Excellence, Friendship, Determination, Courage, Equality, Inspiration’ and is designed to meet the current needs of your school, your teachers and your pupils. In summary it offers:


• One curriculum session per week, based on the four core sports of Rugby, Netball, Dodgeball and Athletics


• One after school session per week • One inter-school tournament per term (incl. ‘Fun days’ at HRFC) • A club links programme for future sports development • CPD accreditation for teachers/ coaches
