by J. wally nesbitt cTcc president and founder John bondar has created, nurtured and devel- oped a highly respected on-track forum that covers the gamut of touring car competition. whether preferences lie with the entry-level, 100 horse- power b-spec racers to 300+ horsepower super class machines, fans, driver and teams can find their ideal niche, a favoured choice, among the ranks of the cTcc classes. The canadian Touring car championship Presented by continental Tire is

heading into its seventh season of operation in 2013. The years of devel- opment have left the series with a strong presence across the provinces of Quebec and ontario, as the seven date, 14 race schedule incorporates events at six separate tracks. appearing on the calendar for this year are contests on the legendary canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mo- sport), circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Trois Rivieres and Mont-Tremblant circuits, as well as the newer venues of IcaR (Mirabel) and calabogie Motorsports Park. The cTcc campaign will begin on the Victoria Day weekend at cTMP and conclude at calabogie, the weekend after the labour Day holiday. “This year we tried to spread out the events more than in previous

years. last year, there were too many races with not enough downtime in between. It affects the teams, the drivers and the officials, we burned our- selves out,” said bondar. a notable change has been instituted to the weekend procedure in ap- proximately half of the scheduled events. over the past seasons, races

were timed sessions a half-hour in length, but for 2013 several of the con- tests will be extended. lombardi honda Racing will prepare civics for Jerimy Daniel and benoit

Gagnon this year. audette Racing will expand to a two-car super class ef- fort in 2013 as brothers Remy and Mathieu will each enjoy a mount of their own instead of sharing a ride as they did last season. former two-time super champion, and defending b-spec title holder,

nick wittmer is in the process of building a new super class honda, leaving the team’s b-spec fit for younger brother Karl. fellow Quebecois Roger ledoux will be aboard a new subaru, fitted to the premiere class regula- tions. The Touring class will also see an increased paddock presence as blanchet Racing will again field a car for 2013 champion Damon sharpe plus a second available ride with a driver to be announced. octane Racing has four MInI coopers prepared for the season with a

driver line-up that includes eric lacouture and championship contender Michel sallenbach. In addition to the wittmer b-spec entry, octane will have multiple MInIs available for entry-level participants, and it is ru- moured that a pair of Mazda entries and a Toyota Yaris are in the works. “The canadian Touring car championship is looking good. we’re happy

with our schedule, we’re pleased with our overall stability, and it’s nice to have the one problem we’re dealing with, having more drivers looking for rides than cars available,” concluded bondar. for more information, visit www.touringcar.ca.
