Both will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET. Marion Jenkins, chief executive officer of QSE Technologies Inc. of Englewood,
Colorado, will present
the first webinar. He will discuss how information technology (IT) and auto- mation can give your ASC an edge over other providers, lower your adminis- trative costs, improve outcomes and attract potential patients and partners. He also will present the dos and don’ts of IT, including the security provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and ex- plain how spending too little can be as costly as spending too much. An Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) expert will present the second webinar and provide the information you need to comply with OSHA’s requirements. Learn how to prepare for and respond to an OSHA survey and discuss what OSHA survey- ors look for when they inspect an ASC. Registration is available online at

Register for ASCA’s 2013 Fall Seminars Between October 9 and 12, 2013, ASCA will offer three seminars and the Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) review course at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas. The Board of Am- bulatory Surgery Certification will also offer the CASC exam on October 12. The seminars will include a full-day
program on quality and purchasing, another full-day program on inventory management and a two-day program

New Advancing Surgical Care Web Portal
ASCA has launched a new web portal to help educate the public, media and policymakers about ASCs and their benefits. The portal, called “ASCA’s Campaign
for Advancing Surgical Care: Quality for Patients, Value for Healthcare,” explains the value of physician ownership, the savings ASCs pass along to patients and providers, ASCs’ longstanding commit- ment to quality care and more. The Advancing Surgical Care por- tal also provides helpful resources that
include an interactive map linked to state-specific information about ASCs, a timeline of the history of ASCs and testimonials from physicians, ASC staff and patients. Information about key ASC policy initiatives, such as access to colorectal cancer screenings, ASC to HOPD conversions and the Medicare savings that ASCs provide, is also ac- cessible there. A second map made available as
part of the new campaign shows the locations of Medicare-certified ASCs and major hospitals throughout the country. This valuable tool helps dem- onstrate to lawmakers that moving more eligible surgical procedures into the ASC setting will not reduce patient access to quality care.
