After what seems likes an interminable Winter in the City, Spring has brought a raft of legislative and regulatory developments, one of which forms the basis of an excellent article in this edition: The Jackson Reforms on the funding of Civil Litigation which may well have lasting effects on how certain law firms (not necessarily in the City) adapt their business models. We commend Tom Spiller’s incisive analysis in this edition. A development that we have not commented on is the potentially far reaching changes in the regulation of the financial industry in the United Kingdom: following the abolition of the FSA, two new financial services regulators started their operations on 1 April 2013. More on this in successive editions as the changes take hold.

welcomed articles extolling the virtues of artistic appreciation. Two articles in this edition fit the (play) bill: our newly appointed
opera
correspondent, Lionel Rosenblatt, describes the early lives of three of his favourite musical geniuses, and has been persuaded to follow this article up in the next edition with further erudition. No lesser artistry was displayed by Past Master David Biddle in his heroic representation of
