XK8

The XK8, (factory code X100), was launched by Jaguar Cars at the Geneva motor show in March 1996. The new Jaguar was available in coupé or convertible body styles with the new 4.0 litre Jaguar AJ-V8 engine under the bonnet. In May 1998 the XKR was introduced with a supercharged version of the V8 engine and uprated suspension for superior handling. From 2003 the engines were replaced by the 4.2 litre AJ34 power unit in both the normally aspirated and supercharged versions.

The first-generation XK series shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7. Both cars were derived from an extensively modified Jaguar XJS floor pan. One of the revisions was the use of the second generation of Jaguar's IRS unit, taken from the XJ40. The XK8 and XKR are both electronically limited to a maximum of 155.4 miles per hour (250.1 km/h).

In standard form, the XK8 came with 17" alloy wheels, while 18" (Standard on the XKR), 19", and 20" wheels are available for additional cost. A navigation system and self-leveling xenon headlamps came as standard with the XKR and as options for the XK8. Jaguar's Adaptive Cruise Control was an optional feature available on both models. Both were equipped with all-leather interior, burr walnut trim, and side airbags. Initially the ZF 5HP24 5-speed automatic transmission was coupled to the conventionally aspirated 4.0 Litre and a Mercedes W5A580 5-speed transmission to the supercharged version, but in 2002 the new ZF 6HP26 6-speed automatic transmission was fitted in both versions of the 4.2L. Several special editions were produced in limited numbers, such as the ‘Silverstone’, to celebrate Jaguar’s return to formula one racing, the XKR100, celebrating the centenary of Sir William Lyons birth and the ‘Portfolio’ and ‘Victory’ special editions for the American market.

The last XK8 was produced in May 2005 with a final production total of over 91,000 units YOUR VEHICLE DETAILS
