THINKING OF

STUDYING ABROAD Cardiff is the Right Choice

With so many universities vying for your attention, what criteria should you apply when making your choices and what do you need to know before making a decision that could influence the next few years of your life, and beyond?

Research, then Research Some More. Rankings Aren’t Everything.

How is the course taught? Does the programme use a blend of problem-based learning and small group discussions to carry out its curriculum? What is the ratio of lectures to seminars? Will you get the necessary time and attention with your lecturers? How often will you be assessed and will you be learning from the very best academic staff?

At Cardiff University, our research-led teaching was given the highest possible award in the last government review; 33 out of 34 of our subject areas were classed as ‘world-leading’ in terms of research. Cardiff University carries out problem-based teaching which encourages students to be independent thinkers with critical transferable skills for a wide range of careers. At Cardiff, you’ll be exposed to practical elements in your field and you’ll be learning from pioneering, world-renowned staff.

Do the Math – How Much Will it Cost You.

As an international student, choosing to study overseas will be a huge investment of both your time and money. Certain cities in the UK will cost more than others so you should choose carefully where you live as this will have a big impact on your day to day living costs - everyone wants to graduate with as little debt as possible!

Cardiff is one of the most affordable University cities to be live in the UK, with rent typically £47 cheaper per week than in London. Most students walk to their classes as our campus is very closely situated to residences and the city centre, which keeps travel costs low.

Cardiff University also has scholarships for international students as well as a dedicated ‘jobshop’ and careers service to help support students during and after their studies. Students can use these free services to search for part-time work during their studies.

Location, Location, Location – Can You See Yourself Here?

Whether it’s a year or four, being comfortable in your surroundings is integral to your academic success. It helps if the city you live in is a friendly, diverse and above all – safe one.

Government research shows that Cardiff is one of the safest regions in the UK. With 20% of Cardiff’s population being made up of students, Cardiff truly is a cosmopolitan student city. An estimated 94 languages are spoken here and it’s easy to find food ingredients from home in the international supermarkets.

Many international students currently call Cardiff their home away from home. If you’d like to find
