find a pay phone and call the agent for help. “Lock your doors and get out of there,” the


agent said. Quality Transportation follows the family-


owned tradition prevalent in the industry. Patrick said that while he considered other careers and opportunities briefly, it was probably a given he would join his dad’s business. He made up his mind while working for


TSL Logistics in Omaha,Neb. “If I’m going to work in transportation I’m


going to work for my dad,” Patrick said. Mike left behind a thriving, well-organized


company, which despite the recent emotional strain made it easier for Patrick to take over. “I think that the core body of the company


is solid,” Patrick said. “Most of the employees have been there 15-20 years. …It’s been a tough transition but because there was such stability in the organization it made the transition easier.” Rost pointed out Mike’s emphasis on


camaraderie and teamwork, to the point that Mike adopted the acronym TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) for Quality

Transportation. The team leader may be gone, Rost said,


but thanks toGriffith the team spirit remains. “He was the rock of our company,” Rost


said. “We’re just going to try to stay strong and


keep it moving the way Mike would want it as a quality operation. I’m just going to miss him; we all do. “We’ll keep doing it in honor of his legacy.”
