NMAS holds a membership meeting in the morning before the show starts and the several talks that they sponsor during the day count to- ward continuing education credits for their organization. 1315–1430 Eric Sorensen, a consultant to boat builders and the US Navy, author of Sorensen’s Guide to Powerboats and monthly contributor of the On Powerboats column in Soundings magazine, will present a seminar on the July 4, 2012 capsizing of 34-foot Silverton Kandi Won in which three children drowned. With 27 people onboard, the boat was loaded far in excess of the boat’s capac- ity. Mr. Sorensen will explain the practical effects of overloading on the boat’s stability and handling and review the relevant elements of seaworthiness. He will conclude with a discussion of the human dimension - the role of experience, judgment and personal respon- sibility.

In less than a year with less than $65,000 invested, the 40-ton pinky schooner ARDELLE was com- pleted, certifi ed by the coast guard to carry 49 passengers and sailing out of Gloucester.
