WHEN the outbreak of foot and mouth disease put astop to the local Christmas fatstock market, William Lloyd Williams decided to offer the premises foracarcass- onlycompetition so thatthe town did not lose this important produc- er’sevent. It has continued over the years
and growninto one of the most popular carcass shows in Wales, providing ashowcase forlocal farmers and their produce.With an abattoir situated at the back of the premises,this reallyislow food miles. Mr Williams is past president
and nowpolicy director of the National Federation of Meatand Food Traders,and wasawarded an MBE forhis services to the meat industry.
