In 2007, at the auction associated with the National Trakehner Show in Hanover, Dolce Luciana, then called Dolce Lucia, was purchased by Beate Conle-Hüttner of Gestüt Wiesenhof for one of the highest prices of the event. At age three, the mare received 57 points at her inspection. A few months later she was the champion mare of the Trakehner Group at the Elite Show in Wickrath. She secured her premium status with a score of 8.08 in her mare performance test in 2011. At that time, she was already in foal to Kentucky, who was named champion of 2009 Trakehner Stallion Licensing as a two-year-old and then purchased by Gestüt Wiesenhof. On December 3, 2012, Dolce Luciana was sent on her
journey to the British Isles, again bred to Kentucky. Prince Donatus and Trakehner Verband President Petra Wilm traveled with the mare to Windsor Castle, where she was presented in the Royal Mews, the Queen’s stables. Here, on December 8, Dolce Luciana was presented to the Queen.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II meets her gift, Dolce Luciana.
“Her Majesty was truly enchanted by the mare, by her pleasant temperament as well as her truly noble presence,” the Prince told Der Trakehner. “The Queen praised the typey, ‘Araby’ face and her truly outstanding walk. She also expressed her thanks for the continuing assistance by the Trakehner Verband.” So now Dolce Luciana has a new home in the Queen’s private stables at Hampton Court Palace, the royal castle on the shore of the Thames.
She has traveled far from the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, where she was foaled at Gestüt Panker by breeder Veronika von Schöning. And for her breeder Veronika, this gift seems particularly
appropriate. In May 1978, when Queen Elizabeth visited Germany as the guest of German President Walter Scheel and stopped at the Landgut Schierensee, an estate near Kiel, Veronika and her stallion Karneval along with Peter Böck on Idol performed a pas de deux for the visiting Queen.
