The Looe Valley Line

Getting to the Looe Valley Line By Rail

Liskeard is the junction between the Looe Valley Line and the main line.

There are regular services linking Liskeard with Plymouth, St Austell, Truro, Penzance and many other towns in Cornwall and Devon.

Liskeard is about 25 minutes from Plymouth and 50 minutes from Truro by rail.

By Road

Liskeard also has through trains from London, Bristol, Birmingham and the north.

Liskeard station (PL14 4DX) is about half a mile south of Liskeard town centre. It is well signposted throughout the town.

When you reach the station, turn left in front of the main station building and go down the hill to the Looe Valley Line platform, Platform 3.

There is a large car park right by this platform. Car parking is very reasonable - just £1.00 all day (December 2012).

Liskeard:

At the head of the East Looe Valley lies Liskeard, a busy and lively market town. Find out more about this historic town by visiting the Tourist Information Centre in Foresters Hall, Pike Street.

Liskeard boasts several interesting independent shops, many specialising in local and hand crafted products, plus welcoming pubs and cafes and fine Victorian buildings.

One particular place of interest is Stuart House in Barras Street where Charles I stayed in 1644.

Looe:

Actually two towns, East and West Looe, Looe has a maze of winding narrow streets to explore.

The two rivers create a tidal harbour which separates the quiet, rocky foreshores of West Looe and Hannafore from the busy waterfront,

Liskeard Station

Banjo Pier and the sandy beach of East Looe.

A fine Victorian seven span bridge, a ferry and a certain friendly rivalry link the two communities.

It is worth visiting the harbour quay to watch the boats coming in to unload their catches.

Looe is Cornwall’s second most important fishing port and local fish can be found on the menu of many restaurants.
