• Blake Lapthorn promotions for 2012 comprise 21 appointments across the business to positions including legal director, senior associate, associate and senior executive. Among them is Ian Howlett (above), commercial property solicitor, Southampton, who has been promoted to legal director. Meanwhile Mark Turnbull, banking and finance in Southampton, becomes a senior associate, along with Marina Wickens (real estate), Kym Provan (clinical negligence), Dan Geddes (commercial litigation) and Grant Evatt (personal injury).
• Independent financial recruitment consultancy CMA Recruitment Group has appointed Lee Cooper (right) to its growing executive finance division. Having enjoyed a successful financial recruitment career for 18 years, he is ideally placed to develop CMA’s executive recruitment approach to board appointments. This move will give the company an additional focus on high-end appointments with an emphasis on retained, search and selection assignments. The division is headed by Southampton-based regional head George Weston (left), who was promoted from branch manager at the Basingstoke office last year. • Phil Hinson has taken the role of corporate finance director for PwC in the South East. Working closely with the team of 100+ specialist deal professionals, he will have responsibility for deal origination and advising clients on transactions across the region. He brings with him over 12 years' corporate finance and private equity experience – including direct experience of supporting management teams in delivering their buy and build strategies, and returns to PwC having begun his career in the firm’s corporate finance team in London in 1996. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1999.
• Solicitor Richard Wadsworth has joined Moore Blatch’s Lymington-based team as part of its growing probate and court of protection team, where he will be providing families, businesses and individuals with assistance on a broad range of legal issues. A specialist in the administration of estates, wills, trusts and inheritance tax, he previously held roles at Oxford firm Darbys and Hampshire firm Heppenstalls.
• Simon Morris is the new general manager of Haskins’ Ferndown Garden Centre. Morris, who has 27 years’ experience in retail, most recently worked as a project manager for B&Q in the company’s head office at Chandlers Ford. The award- winning Haskins Garden Centre at Longham, Ferndown, was the company’s first new build centre. Since opening in 1994, it has continued to grow in popularity as a destination garden centre, employs 140 horticultural and catering staff, and has an annual turnover of £10 million.

• Mark Elliott has been appointed chief executive officer at McCarthy & Stone, Britain’s leading builder of retirement apartments which is investing in excess of £1.5 billion over a five-year period in land acquisition and construction. Elliott previously worked for Arena Leisure, where he oversaw the redevelopment of Doncaster racecourse, the development of Lingfield Park and the creation of a catering business which went on to win contracts at two Olympic 2012 venues. Prior to Arena Leisure, he spent 15 years at Wembley, latterly as CEO, where he was instrumental in disposing of Wembley Stadium and reinventing the company as an international track-based gaming business.
• Westbourne-based marketing agency CuCo has appointed Oddny Edwards to the position of marketing manager. CuCo creative director Christian Cutler said: “We are privileged to have Oddny on board. This is a sign of continued good things to come.“ Oddny has worked with many household name brands including T-mobile, Virgin, Amazon, Tesco, Raleigh and Halfords, delivering integrated marketing campaigns involving all parts of the marketing mix, from social media, CRM and e-commerce to PR and branding. With an extensive understanding of the marketing mix, she will be in charge of delivering integrated marketing campaigns and advice to CuCo clients.
• RSM Tenon has made two promotions in the Solent region with both Duncan Stocks and Simon Evans becoming partners. Stocks, who is in tax in the south and heads up the VAT team, commented: “Leading the southern region VAT practice is a privilege and a pleasure. I have a great team behind me and we are in the ascendency – watch this space“. Evans, in the corporate risk advisory team, focuses on the corporate market and leads the enterprise risk management and governance team.
