Networking brings new contacts
The Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference provides abundant networking opportunities and a gala dinner for delegates and exhibitors
T
wo days of networking and a gala evening awards dinner for delegates, speakers and exhibitors were provided at this year’s
Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, plus plenty of other networking opportunities during breakfast, lunch and the morning and afternoon coffee breaks. All of the attendees agreed there was plenty of time for catching up with long-term friends and associates and for forming new business partnerships. The audience and speakers at the included
conference some of the most
prestigious shipowners, shipmanagers and fleet financiers. In addition, a good mixture of equipment suppliers, engineers, former vessel officers and service suppliers all discussed key industry topics and issues. The networking opportunities peaked in the evening of the first day at the conference when there was a drinks reception, followed by a three-course evening meal and the awards ceremony. The winner of OSJ’s Lifetime Achievement
Award, Edison Chouest’s president and chief executive, Gary Chouest, described the conference and awards as: “A good event and an excellent time to network with our vendors.” There were other positive views from shipowner representatives during conference. Gary Dockerty, P&O Maritime’s
the
executive general manager for Middle East and Africa, said he enjoyed the conference. “This for me is the best 48 hours of networking anyone can get, meeting the movers and shakers in the industry, which is why we keep on coming.” Gulf Offshore’s North Sea managing
director Perry Kennedy enjoyed the conference and networking. He said: “The conference is excellent, the best attended and with a strong panel base.
“It’s not just people talking about their products.
People on the panels do what they are discussing for a living and this is a real strength. It is a great conference and I like the international aspects. We can learn new ideas from others that operate in other regions. The networking has been great and the conference has been very successful.” Vincent Weve, general manager of Middle East shipowner Stanford Marine, added: “By far this is the best conference I have attended in this industry. It is absolutely excellent, the best in its class because of the high profile of the speakers.” John van Os,
product director with
shipbuilder Damen Shipyards, was pleased with the people he met during the networking times: “All the decision makers come to this conference and because of the people attending it provides fantastic opportunities for networking. The level of papers and quality of people attending means it is important for our business.” Caterpillar’s
John Shock said: “The
networking is good, the conference programme and panellists covered a different range of topics. The dual-fuel discussion is a very hot topic. I liked the gala dinner and the focus of the awards.” OSJ
