Students from schools around the county town celebrate their exam results Students achieve top grade GCSEs By Diane Nicholls


THE long nervous wait was over for students throughout Maid- stone as the GCSE results en- velopes were finally handed out. Students at Invicta Grammar school achieved 65% A*/A grades, with the number of stu- dents who have eight subjects at these levels increasing to 64%. High fliers were Kelly Boxall,


Emma Copland, Lydia McLaren and Kirsten Wells who all achieved 11 A*/A grades in their GCSEs and 2 As at AS level, which they took a year early. Fay Hodgson notched up 10A*/A GCSE grades and two As and a B atASlevel. More than 20 students scored straight A*/A grades. At New Line Learning Aademy, in Boughton Lane, Maidstone, students set a new school record, with 95% achiev- ing A*-C grades. Oakwood Park Grammar School also had another record breaking year with 52%of grades A* or A, and 64% of students gaining five or more A*/A grades. At neighbouring St Simon


Stock RC School, 75% of pupils gained five or more A*-C with a 98% pass rate. Maidstone Grammar School

A-LEVEL students have been celebrating making the grade after exam results contin- ued on an upward trend throughout the bor- ough.


Invicta Grammar School students achieved 72.5% A*-B grades with five stu- dents being accepted on to their chosen Oxbridge courses. High fliers were Chenx- ianWu(5A*,1A), CharlotteKeighron (4A*, 2A), Emily Morrison (3A*, 2A), Fairby Ross (3A*, 2A), ThazinWynn (3A*, 2A) and Gabriella Knowler (3A*, 1A). Julie Derrick, head of school, said: “Our students have yet again risen to the challenge of combining their own academic studies with charitable work to not only give them- selves the best possible opportunities mov- ing forward, but also to improve the lives of others in their local, national and inter- national communities.” Maidstone Grammar School pupils achieved the school’s best results since 2008 and the second best in its history, withmore than 60% gaining A* to B grades and more than one in eight grades being an A*. At Oakwood Park Grammar School,more


than 60% of all grades were A*, A and B. A number of students gained allA* orAgrades. Head teacher Kevin Moody said they were “wonderful results”. Pupils at SuttonValence School achieved a


58% increase in the top grades over the past six years with 63% of students gaining A* to Bgrades.Topachievers included Olivia Emp- son ofCoxheath, JoshuaGreaves of Maidstone and Owen Moulding of Boughton Monchelsea. At Cornwallis Academy in Hubbards Lane, Linton, 66% of students achieved A* to C

Delighted principal David Simons said: “More students than ever will be going into further education and this is testament to the hard work and dedication that both the stu- dents and staff have put into making this year so successful.” Valley Park School students achieved a


record 82% pass rate at A* to C, with 51% of grades at A* or A – a 13% increase on last year. Two students at St Simon Stock RC School, Abigail Motley and Daniel Heas- man, confirmed Oxford places. Pupils achieved a 100% pass rate with 22% gain- ing A* or A grades. Mid Kent College announced record results


with an overall pass rate of 98% at its Maid- stone campus.
