From left: John Pullen, curator of mammals at Marwell Wildlife, with Miles Brown, Ray Cobb and Darren Tibble from Coffin Mew ... and friends
In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Marwell Wildlife is bringing Go! Rhinos, a world- class, mass public art event, to Southampton.
For 10 weeks throughout the summer of 2013, rhino sculptures
six foot long by five foot high will inhabit the streets and parks of the city, showcasing the wealth of artistic talent in the area, positively contributing to its economic, cultural and social life and raising significant funds
for two local charities: Marwell Wildlife and The Rose Road Association.
Coffin Mew Solicitors was among the first businesses to join the ‘charge‘, alongside the Ageas Bowl and Holiday Inn Winchester. The spectacular rhinos will create an amazing trail across the city to raise awareness of the plight of these creatures and give a welcome boost to the city‘s economy.
Miles Brown, managing partner at Coffin Mew, said: “Marwell has come up with a highly- imaginative way to help focus attention on the rhino, celebrate its anniversary and raise much needed funds for Rose Road and Marwell.
“It‘s a fantastic way to help put Southampton on the map and if it follows the route of other cities that have hosted similar events, it will positively contribute to the economic, cultural and social life of the city. We are delighted to be part of this initiative.“
The event is being jointly produced by Marwell Wildlife, Business Solent and Wild in Art.
