August : The Green Goddess A monthly column on horticulture with a special emphasis on urban sustainable living and native plants. Jennifer considers herself to be an enthusiastic, life long learner interested in a multitude of subjects and an expert at none.
So what are the three things that make a reader of this column eligible for FREE garden tree this Fall? Let’s see…
• You must of a city of Philadelphia property owner.
• You must be able to pick up your tree at one of the Fall TreePhilly distribution events.
Free Trees from TreePhilly
By Jennifer Jones I
really like the Tree- Philly program. I like it so much that I picked up one of the trees now living in my own back garden this past April 2012, for FREE, from this program. I have pledged to Erica Smith Fichman, the program’s director, to water my new tree with at least 20 gallons a week to keep it alive. My tree is a wonder- ful Serviceberry variety, which has edible berries and actually produced berries already this sum- mer. Do you know about this program, and would you like a free tree of your
own? Tree planting is typically accomplished in the Spring and Fall, since the summer months can prove to be difficult for a transplanted tree to achieve a healthy start in our local climate. And guess what? It’s time for Fall tree planting! Readers, please help
TreePhilly reach their goal for 2012 of 15,000 new trees growing in the City of Philadelphia! Let’s all enjoy a greener, healthier, more beautiful Philadel- phia!
