A special timetable and fare structure (with restricted concessionary travel) will apply at the special events listed below.


Full details of each event will be published in a separate leaflet, and posted on our website, at least six weeks in advance of the date of the event.


14-15 July China Clay Weekend New for 2012 A celebration of the important role the local railways have played, and continue to play, in the Cornish china clay industry. A unique collection of steam and heritage diesel locomotives that all regularly worked clay trains in times gone by will be in action. Intensive timetable and many other attractions.


3-5 August


Paddington Bear Come along to Bodmin General Station and meet the children’s favourite Paddington Bear, who will be appearing at various intervals throughout the day, with plenty of time for a photograph. Enjoyment for children of all ages!


26-27 August Fireman Sam


Join in the fun and excitement – come and meet Fireman Sam, who makes a very special ‘return delivery’ to Bodmin General Station. Brake van rides, children’s entertainer, miniature railway. Don’t forget your camera!


7-9 September


Steam Gala & Real Ale Festival Come and see us showcase our own impressive fleet

29 September Autumn Diesel Gala Day


Another opportunity for modern traction fans to savour our fleet of heritage diesel locomotives in action.


12-14 October Railmotor Weekend NEW FOR 2012


A fantastic opportunity to sample travel behind the unique Great Western Railway Railmotor No 93, built at Swindon in 1908 – its first visit away from its Didcot home since completion of its restoration last year. Several other GWR locomotives in action working an intensive timetable. A unique celebration of the GWR Cornish branch line!


28 October Postman Pat


Lots of fun and excitement for children of all ages ... and their parents too ... as


Postman Pat and Jess the Cat make a special visit to Bodmin General Station. Brake van rides, children’s entertainer, miniature railway and a whole lot more. The ideal family treat for the school half term holiday!


3-4 November Half Price Weekend Finish the main season in style enjoying a day of half price travel!


2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22-24 December Santa by Steam Enjoy a steam train ride and visit Santa in his grotto on the train during your journey. Free present from Santa for children, mince pies and seasonal refreshments for adults. All inclusive fare – advance booking essential. A wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities – festive fun for all the family!


5-6 January 2013 Winter Steam-Up Brush off those winter blues, with a visit to Bodmin to see an impressive array of steam in action working an enhanced service. Our last Steam Gala of the season and the perfect tonic to start the New Year!
