Town a favourite
with investors Continued from page one
Greer congratulated the town’s regeneration and economic de- velopmentmanager John Foster for working on behalf of the borough. Mr Foster, who said the coun-
cil would be unveiling a glossy 24-page brochure telling “the success story of Maidstone” next month, said: “Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent on Maidstone, across a range of spheres, and there’s more to come. This brochure will paint an exciting picture.” In league tables, Tonbridge
and Malling often appears above Maidstone – not merely because of Kings Hill, but be- cause of the property offer of Kings Hill and Aylesford com- bined, as well as Tonbridge. However, job-wise in 2011-
12, Maidstone did better than all areas except Ashford, which attracted 661 new jobs. Maid- stone had 393, with Swale and Medway at 186 and 183. Locate in Kent is supported
by KCC, Medway Council, bor- ough councils, the Kent Devel- opers Group, and a partnership of the area’s leading commer- cial property developers and partners from the private sector. It provides a free, comprehen- sive and confidential relocation service for businesses.
Purge on town taxis
TRESPASSING taxis could soon be stopped in their tracks in Maidstone town centre. Officers are to look at the cost
and feasibility of acquiring en- forcement cameras to pick up registration plates of cabswhich come in from outside areas, as already happens in Medway and the London Boroughs. Dennis Conyon from the Maidstone Taxi Proprietors As- sociation has asked the Town Centre Management and Night Economy Business Forum for backing in a bid to clamp down on outside cabs plying for trade in the town, particularly in the busy High Street. Maidstone dif- fers from Medway in not being a
unitary authority and thus not responsible for highways issues, but John Littlemore, Maidstone Borough Council’s Head of Com- munity Services, said he would investigate.“We had looked at it before and thought this could be a quick fix, but it is clearly not,” he told the town’s Night Econ- omy Business Forum.
