OLYMPIC PENINSULA
CIRCLE TOUR Olympic National Park on the Olympic Peninsula is easily accessible between Victoria and Port Angeles on Black Ball Ferries, and by making a circle tour via Seattle and Vancouver.
The nearest campground on Lake Crescent at Fairholm offers interpretive and educational programs about the rain forests, salmon streams and wildlife. Sol du Valley also offers RV camping at the hot springs. The Hoh Visitor Centre has exhibits that explain how the rain forest is bathed in 140 inches of annual rainfall, and another 30 inches of mist off the Pacific.
The national park has the largest herd of Roosevelt Elk in the world.
Cap Flattery occupies America’s most northwest point facing the Pacific Ocean. An improved trail to the viewing points has five perches overlooking the rocky shores with crashing waves. The Makah fishing village is now occupied by a US Coast Guard station. Watch for puffins, sea otters, and whales along the coast.
Olympic National Park includes 60 miles of beaches, with piles of driftwood and active tidal pools, along the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula.
There are about 17 campgrounds in the area.
The MV Coho offers daily sailings for RV’s between Victoria, BC, and Port Angeles, Washington.
