Aided by funding from Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Fund, the teenagers used the safe space of video diaries to ask questions of each other about their communities, identities and beliefs. Larry Cowan, of Lamb Films, who was behind the setting up of the project, along with Ardoyne Youth Providers Forum and the Shankill Area Project, said “Interface Diaries allows young people to be seen as part of the solution, not the problem.” Some of the girls who took part in the project came together recently at the offices of the Street- Beat Youth on the Woodvale Road in Belfast, to ex- plain why they participated in the scheme. more about different cultures. It has been a great experience.” Nicole, from the Shankill, said: “The best thing about the project was meeting everyone, as we have been filming since last October. We visited the home of Manchester United at Old Trafford,
which I really enjoyed. I loved taking part in this scheme and would enjoy doing more of this sort of work.”
Shanna, from Ballysillan, said: “As part of the proj-
ect we went to Manchester which I really enjoyed. I look forward to showing the film to my family and friends. “I’m going to be a star,” she laughed. Sammy Jo, from Ardoyne, said: “It was fantastic to
meet everbody. The highlight of the project was going to Manchester.” Melissa, from the Shankill, said: “We found that learning about different cultures was really interest- ing. This project helped to break down barriers and it brought people closer together.” Louise, a youth worker with Ardoyne Youth
