Interpretation of “Holistic”
The Evolving
ach issue we strive to bring you an integrative outlook to handling equine health and well-being. The Holistic Horse staff (including my co-publisher Stacey Small, production manager Carolyn Crew, and editor Ellen Haight) and I are all horse
owners. Our horses get sick, need hoof care and good nutrition, feed our souls and teach us what to cover in the pages of each issue.
Through our experiences, our interpretation of “holistic” has evolved over the years.
Stacey and I started this magazine 17 years ago as a newsletter to help get the word out about therapies we were discovering from colleagues at the track and in show barns. We knew this information was important for the growth of the industry we love and from which we’ve developed a livelihood. Over the years we have been very fortunate to align with a group of advertisers who manufacture some of the best products available to horses.
But products are not all these advertisers have to offer; it’s their experience, their passion, their input that we cherish and admire, more than words can express. The small business owners who advertise in our magazine have such passion for the products they make, mostly because the creation of these products arose from a need they or their animals had and the marketplace could not offer a solution! I trust them and use many of them for my horses.
I read recently that one of every three people will be diagnosed with cancer. Well, one of our own has been diagnosed, and who have I gone to for advice? Some of our advertisers, those who have been personally touched by this epidemic.
Once Stacey is clear of the allopathic fear-based protocols, her strength and passionate base of holistic medicine will help her deal with this journey. Stacey needs some allopathic care now, and she needs holistic care to survive and thrive afterwards. This epitomizes the “integrative” approach.
Each one of you has either been touched by or will experience cancer. The best weapons are knowledge, faith and strength. Pray for my friend and partner whose light has been a driving force in this magazine.
