IAM membership structure


As a corporate member you can choose the level of membership for each member of staff according to their job role requirements.


Our current membership levels and eligibility criteria are as follows:


Companion (CInstAM) Companion is the most prestigious and highest grade attainable within the IAM and is by invitation only. Senior and experienced Fellows who have made an extraordinary contribution to the Institute or have increased the breadth of research and knowledge in administrative management and professional administration are eligible for this level.


Companions of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters CInstAM.


Fellow (FInstAM) Fellowship of the IAM is a benchmark of excellence within the fields of administrative management and professional administration.


Membership is open to individuals who have achieved a Level 7 qualification in England, Wales, NI or equivalent. It is also attainable to those who can demonstrate significant experience or who have made a considerable contribution to the fields of administrative management or professional administration.


Fellows of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters FInstAM.


Member (MInstAM) Membership is open to individuals who:


• Have achieved a Level 6 qualification in England, Wales, NI or equivalent; or


• Have been employed for 5 years or more in any business where their duties involve administrative management or professional administration;


or


• Have completed 30 days of continuing professional development in the past 3 years


Members of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters MInstAM.


Associate (AInstAM) Associate membership is open to individuals who:


• Have achieved a Level 4 or Level 5 qualification in England, Wales, NI or equivalent; or


• Have been employed for 4 years or more in any business where their duties involve administrative management or professional administration; or


• Have completed 20 days of continuing professional development in the past 3 years


Associate Members of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters AInstAM.


Technician (TInstAM) Technician membership is open to individuals who:


• Have achieved a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in England, Wales, NI or equivalent; or


• Have been employed for 2 years or more in any business where their duties involve administrative management or professional administration; or


• Have completed 10 days of continuing professional development in the past 2 years


Technician members of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters TInstAM.


Graduate (GradInstAM) Graduate membership is open to any recent graduate who has just achieved a Level 6 or higher qualification in England, Wales, NI or equivalent. This membership is limited to 2 years maximum and cannot be renewed.


Graduate members of the Institute are eligible to use the designatory letters GradInstAM.


Non-IAM Student Any university student studying for a qualification between Levels 4 and 7 in England, Wales, NI or equivalent; in business, management or administration is eligible to join the IAM.


Non-IAM students are not eligible to use any designatory letters.
