MSc Economics (Development)


The MSc in Economics (Development) is a one-year, full- time (or up to three years part-time) Masters programme which will provide you with insights into the main economic issues that confront the world economies, with particular reference to developing countries.


This programme will help you to acquire a thorough understanding of the core theoretical and empirical aspects of economics which are essential for a successful economist. A wide range of transferable skills can also be developed through this degree, such as problem solving, analytical thinking, computing and critical evaluation. Practical training is provided in the interpretation of economic data, which includes making use of the Department’s advanced econometric software packages, such as EViews, RATS and STATA.


The MSc Economics (Development) combines a strong analytical core in the areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, together with specialist units in international development which are taught by colleagues across the Faculty and which have a distinct multi-disciplinary perspective. The wide range of optional units on offer includes areas such as sustainable development and well-being, drawing upon examples from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
