Malcolm’s car is a classic winner

THIS 1934 Lagonda, pictured crossing Teston Bridge, was the pick of 41 beautifully preserved ve- hicles taking part in the Blackpal- frey Motor Club of Kent’s annual tour. The convoy of classic cars started

and finished the day at The Moat, Wrotham, with stops for morn- ing coffee and lunch at Tenterden railway and Bewl reservoir. The Maidstone-based club

was formed in 1965 by a group of rally enthusiasts. Its name is an amalgamation of two former car clubs, the Black Horse (Tun- bridgeWells pub) andWilliam Pal- frey (Rochester engineering company). Malcolm Jones, from East Peck-

ham, owner of the 75-year-old Lagonda, won the concours award.

Saturday bus services saved

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save bus services to nine rural com- munities have won a reprieve, at least until 2013 KCC has agreed that the following Saturday routes, which it sub- sidises at £5.02 per passenger, will continue: 13 Hollingbourne, Leeds and Otham 59 Grafty Green, Ulcombe, Kingswood, Chart Sutton and Boughton Monchelsea 28/29 Marden and Chainhurst. Monday to Friday services were not subject to the cuts which

were due in January. Bus users’ concerns were taken up by Maidstone Cllr Mike FitzGerald on behalf of the East of Maidstone Bus Group. He said: “We still have to press for increased use of the services to avoid any further review going forward but if that becomes necessary our proposals will be reconsidered before any re-contracting.”
