Plenty to see and do as locals join in the fun of Hollingbourne safari market

Wet and windy… but market is still a splash hit

ARASH of showers failed to prevent Hollingbourne’s safari market from going off swimmingly well. Residents set up almost 50 different stalls in front of their homes,

as they used the occasion to sell unwanted items and have a catch- up with their neighbours. Cardwell Pavilion was the hub of the day, with organisers from Hollingbourne WI ensuring everybody was fixed up with sausage or bacon rolls and tea. An art display and sale took place, with exhibits from village and

WI members. Ruby Jeffrey won the competition for the most visited stalls.

Party provides the

icing on the cake THE safari market was immediately fol- lowed by ‘Party in theMeadows’ to cele- brate the village’s latest successful fundraising project. Hollingbourne Meadows Trust held the

Janet Britton, Peter Lee and Jim Findlay preparing for action at the bar

event to mark the £40,000 purchase of a four-acre field that adjoins 23 acres of fields already safeguarded from develop- ment by the trust. Around 100 people enjoyed music from Union Brass; ice creams and soft drinks from Christopher Rudgard, who runs the village shop, and a bar run by the trust. The next trust event, a charity auction at Hollingbourne village hall, is on October 21.
