Mathieu Roy M

athieu Roy will once again wear the ‘C’ for the ECHL’s Florida

Everblades when their regular season gets underway Oct. 14 at home against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Roy, who has played the last three

years in Estero, has a vote of confi- dence from Everblades head coach Greg Poss.

“Mathieu is the type of player that

leads by example,” said Poss. “Last year, he did all the little things for us to be successful. He’s a player that fans identify with and enjoy his style of play. Mathieu is a great person as well and he is the type of player we want to have as the nucleus of our team.”

Everblades’ Captain Roy Returns For ’11-12 ECHL Season By Matt Mackinder

Last season, the Quebec native

scored 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points and now ranks eighth on the all-time games played list in Ever- blades history with 187. Prior to his last three years in Florida, Roy played one season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots in 2007-08. Also back with the Everblades is assistant coach Brad Tapper. “Brad was a big part of the team last season and real important piece of the puzzle to get back.” Poss said. “I’m looking forward to working with him again and I really thought we made good strides as a group. Keep- ing the coaching staff together was important for us heading into this year.”

Prior to the Everblades’ second game of the year on Oct. 15, the an- nual alumni game charity fundraiser will take place at 4 p.m. at Germain Arena. This year’s game features a unique twist as the Everblades alumni will battle the Florida Gulf Coast University club hockey team. The jerseys worn by the alumni

players will be auctioned off following the Everblades game later that eve- ning with all proceeds going to the Piper Lynne Buckley Foundation.
