razumovskaya Anna celebrates the feminine
Anna’s choice of subjects is completely guided by her search for beauty. Though the honesty and straightforwardness of the subject matter belies any hidden agenda or political motivation, she believes that the early repression of freedom in her Soviet childhood has had a profound influence on the way she paints. Her work is characterised by an energy that defies and rules or attempts to contain it as it spins and whirls beyond the confines of the frame.

Anna herself has a strong sensual physicality that she brings out in her subjects. Expressive, inventive and unpretentious, she could be described as the living embodiment of her art. Having known oppression, she is quick to laugh, and immediate in her response to things that inspire her. She constantly strives to celebrate the joy in living, the artistry of musicians and dancers, the vivid beauty of a woman’s face, and the sensuality, elegance and complete freedom of the human form. While Anna sketches and paints in her studio,
music in the background, she is energetic, light on her feet, and it is obvious she takes great pleasure in her work. This energy flows through her brushes onto the canvas and give her imagery the spontaneity and spirited vibrancy of the artist. She works on more than one piece at a time, so the studio is full of canvases at different stages, offering a real insight into the progress of each piece. She finds this way of working a liberating experience, and this concept of liberation is hugely important to her.
