Local, fresh and tasty – that’s what we want!
DEEPER
If there’s a theme we are all looking for when it comes to food these days it is the simple request that it should be local, seasonal and fresh.
This autumn in the West Country this message is reaching out to more people than ever before with food festivals, food fairs, special food events at garden centres and also the high-quality, fresh food available from farm shops and restaurants to pubs and bistros.
So it’s time to celebrate the great choice and freshness good for the health and wealth of the West Country as it is laid before us with mouth-watering products.
Homemade at Hestercombe
Hestercombe’s reputation as one of the most inspiring and historic garden venues in the country is well recognised and the restoration work carried out in the gardens, covering three centuries of gardening history, has been much praised. What perhaps is a better kept secret is the fabulous fayre available. As much care and thought has gone into the food served in the Stables Restaurant and Coffee Shop as is lavished on the gardens. With an emphasis on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients wherever possible and as Hestercombe is located in the heart of Somerset, a wonderfully productive ‘foody’ area, the menu is simple and stylish.
Head chef Martin Osedo takes enormous pride in everything being home-made. With his individual fl air and just a touch of his Kenyan infl uence he combines ingredients with skill from tantalising salads, for example, feta with beetroot, pine nut and spring onion salad; to the daily specials and even his lunchtime Paninis are served with panache, try houmous and roast pepper; or chicken and lemon mayonnaise. If a giant cup cake or a mouth-watering slice

of chocolate brownie seems a step too far, you can always walk it off in the gardens!
The restaurant is located in the historic converted stables and the light, airy outdoor dining area in the Courtyard is an award winning development. With the Garden Shop and Plant Centre next door it is the ideal place for a spot of shopping too.
Times: The Stables Restaurant and Coffee Shop is open every day (except Christmas) from 10am – 5.30pm, lunches are served between 12 noon and 2.30pm.
