Where do you go when you can’t stick to a diet? For one group of successful slimmers, the answer is Maidstone weight loss club Arriba. Run by qualified fitness instructor Estelle Gillett and her husband Alan, who is a certified nutritionist, the club takes an informal approach while helping people to improve their overall health and well-being. As well as losing weight, some members have also seen other health improvements with conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
The members ages range from 23 to 80 and include a solicitor, working mums, stay-at-home mums, a couple of pensioners and a midwife. The class meets weekly over a 12-week period and there are cash prizes for those who lose the most weight. One of the previous winners was over 15st when he arrived and has since lost 25lbs. Another lady who has recently been to her doctor for a check-up
has lost 19lbs. Her blood pressure and cholesterol have also now reduced into the healthy range.
As well as running the weekly class Estelle and Alan also work on a one-to- one basis from the brand new “A Healthier-Life-Wellness Centre” in Pudding Lane Maidstone and have to date helped 100s of people get better long-term health.
