TRICK OR TREAT by Peter Webster Hello, everyone! It’s Halloween season, and we’re hiking through a virtual pumpkin patch where some goblins have placed
chess positions. In each position one side is able to make a capture. This side will be YOUR goblins. Your task is to deter- mine whether the capture is a TRICK, so that making it will allow the opposing goblins to get the advantage, or a TREAT which is perfectly safe for YOUR goblins to be gobbling. For each correct answer, award yourself a virtual pumpkin. If you solve it from the diagram, award yourself a larger pump- kin! Solutions are on page 15.
