FOOD GRADE LUBRICANTS SUPPLEMENT 7

Advanced protection with new PURITY™FG2

Petro-Canada's PURITY food-grade lubricants excel at providing industrial strength protection under the severe operating conditions of food processing plants. New PURITY FG2 with Microl Max goes one step further by also protecting itself. Revolutionary Microl Max effectively inhibits the growth of performance- degrading microbes that can build up in lubricants. These microbes work to shorten the life of lubricants, and cost plants time and money in the process. PURITY FG2 with Microl Max helps plants maintain the highest level of safety while still preserving their competitive advantage.

Research shows Purity FG2 with Microl Max provides effective anti-microbial protection It was Petro-Canada’s new research breakthrough in the field of anti-microbial lubricant protection that resulted in the development of Purity FG2 with Microl Max. To meet the needs of our customers, we conducted several product antimicrobial preservation efficacy tests at several test laboratories. As detailed by Dr. Nicholas Samman, Grease Product Development Manager at Petro-Canada, there were two main tests conducted, the Zone of Inhibition test and the 28-day Cream Cheese Challenge test. The test protocols employed were similar to those used in the microbiological and pharma - ceutical industries.

The Zone of Inhibition Test The Zone of Inhibition test entailed culturing the micro-organism in a broth for a prescribed period of time, then mixing with the culture medium at a certain concentration and allowed to set. A plug of grease was then put into the culture medium, which was incubated at a prescribed temperature and duration.

www.newfoodmagazine.com The Zone of Inhibition was measured for

Purity FG2 with Microl MAX and our regular food grade product. The Purity FG2 with Microl MAX developed a Zone of Inhibition measuring 4-5mm in size around the grease plug, compared to the absence of such Zone of Inhibition for the regular food grade grease. This proof of performance is a strong indication of the potency of the anti-microbial product protection system and its efficacy in preserving the grease from degradation by inhibiting their growth when it comes in contact with materials bearing the micro-organisms.

The 28-day Cream Cheese Challenge The 28-day Cream Cheese Challenge is a standard test commonly used by microbiological laboratories to test lubricants used in food processing plants to determine the efficacy of the anti-microbial additive product protection system under conditions similar to those food processing plants. The test consisted of three parts and was conducted at a pharmaceutical laboratory. On comparing the test results for the regular

food grade grease and Purity FG2 with Microl MAX, the potency of the Microl anti-microbial

product protection system and its efficacy in preserving the grease from degradation was clearly demonstrated. PURITY FG2 with Microl Max is available as

a grease and complements the Microl hydraulic and gear fluid line. Petro-Canada’s food grade lubricants fit perfectly into a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) plan to ensure the highest standards of food safety.
