Meet the Chesapeake Conference Center’s Executive Chef!

Donald “Antwan” Bryant Executive Chef Chesapeake Conference Center

Donald “Antwan” Bryant is the executive chef at the Chesapeake Conference Center. Antwan began his career at the Chesapeake Conference Center in 2001 as a sous chef. After years of hard work and dedication, it wasn’t long before he was promoted to his current position. “I’ve worked in lots of kitchens and the Chesapeake Conference Center is a very, very nice kitchen, lots of work space and some of the best equipment,” he says. “Working at the Conference Center has been one of the best jobs I have ever had. I like cooking à la carte, but I love catering, and at the Chesapeake Conference Center I can do just that.”

If you ask him what his favorite food to prepare is, Antwan admits that although he tries new things all the time, pasta is his favorite. “I love to experiment with the different flavors,” he says.

Soft spoken but aggressive behind the scenes, Antwan is sure to get the job done and takes pleasure in satisfying the center’s customers.

Antwan’s message to young people interested in becoming chefs is “Make it your passion and not just a job, and stay in school so you can get the tools to enjoy your passion.”

When asked if being a chef at the Chesapeake Conference Center is anything like the chefs we see on the reality shows, he replied, yes and no. “Yes, because we do put in lots of hard work in a very fast paced environment. No, because we are not in competition. This is real.”

Antwan was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia with his wife, daughter and son. He graduated from Tallwood High School and later studied at Johnson & Wales University in Norfolk, VA. In his spare time, Antwan enjoys many hobbies including drumming, making music and teaching martial arts.
