Focus: Dorchester’s new Corporate Team
Duncan Perks, Partner
This is the first edition of this newsletter since the welcome merger between Old Mill and Perks Simm in Dorchester. Consequently we have introduced a new Dorset edition of this newsletter for local owner managed businesses. Welcome to readers both old and new.
Since April’s merger, the new Dorchester office has already seen extra activity as existing staff have been joined by the local Corporate Audit team, headed by David Maslen, which has been relocated from the Yeovil office.
David Maslen, Director
David, who has lived in the area for more than 10 years, already has a good many local contacts and has been attending Dorchester business events for a number of years: “Perks Simm already had a very good mix of business, rural and private clients but relatively few who required an audit. We thought it would be a good idea to look to develop that side of our work in the area and that’s where I came in. I know the area really well and was already running a corporate team of seven back in Yeovil, managing some of Old Mill’s largest clients, so it was decided that I would move down with a selection of my clients and a proportion of my team.
Dorchester is the county town of Dorset and represents an excellent base from which to offer our services to the local business community. Perks Simm is an excellent fit with Old Mill and we have been really pleased with the way the ex Perks Simm staff have taken to life as part of Old Mill.
I already had good relationships with some of the former Perks Simm clients, and they were happy to know that myself, manager Michelle Hobbs, Jessica Kingston, who is part way through her qualification, and graduate trainee Torsten Mills were coming down to join the Dorchester practice. They are an extremely talented and ambitious group and it has been great to integrate so quickly with our new colleagues in the office.”
Duncan Perks who has now become a partner in Old Mill and heads up the office, comments: “We are very much a local firm with a genuine desire to ensure clients receive the best possible advice in their business and personal financial affairs, but what sets us apart from other local practices is the depth of our specialisms in business and tax planning and also our financial planning business. The degree of integration we offer between business, tax and financial planning is far greater than with most conventional accountancy practices and allows us to offer a more comprehensive service.
We have already had a couple of good client wins and the office is really buzzing as a result. We are now advertising for extra staff across a number of disciplines and experience levels – if you know of someone who you think may have something to offer please contact our HR department through the website. We have good relations with local universities and have also started building up contacts with local schools; something we aim to build on over the coming years.
We feel we can offer something exciting and new to the local community by providing rewarding careers for local people within a firm of our size and standing, and giving local businesses access to good quality advice. At Old Mill we are genuinely driven to offer staff a fantastic career. This, combined with the desire to help owner managers receive the best possible advice, are the reasons we are committed to growing both the Dorchester office and Old Mill as a whole.”
