Stroobants Heart Center A Healthy Road Ahead
ease through a new online tool from the Centra Stroobants Heart Center Wellness and Prevention Center. HeartAware, a free cardiovascular risk assess-
Y
ment available at
www.centrahealth.com, can help you assess and identify your potential risk for heart disease. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause
of death in the United States, claiming the lives of nearly 865,000 Americans every year. To a large extent, the disease is both modifiable and preventable. The assessment takes only seven minutes to complete and can help you take control of your health and provide you with the best defense against heart disease. “Centra Stroobants Heart Center is pleased
to provide this free service to identify those at risk for heart disease,” said Skip Meador, vice president, Centra cardiovascular and neuro- science services. “This initiative is part of our effort to provide a wide range of community benefits by helping us achieve our mission to improve the health of our community.” The HeartAware assessment includes ques-

tions about family history, cholesterol, blood pressure and lifestyle habits, which help de- termine if a person is at low, moderate or high risk for heart disease. At the end of the assessment, you will receive a personalized risk profile that will help you to: • Assess your current cardiovascular health status and identify those medical or life- style conditions that may lead to the de- velopment of heart disease.
• Take action to reduce your level of risk. • Receive, at your option, free continuing education via email about your specific car-
ou can mea- sure your risk for heart dis-
diovascular health and risk factors. If the assessment
finds that you are at risk for heart dis- ease, a clinician will
contact you to set up an appointment for a free screening. This screening includes blood pressure, full lipid panel and cholesterol test, height, weight, body mass index, waist cir- cumference, and body fat analysis. After the screening is complete, the clinician will go over the results and let you know what the risks are and how you can modify them. De- pending on the results of the screening, the clinician may recommend that you see your family physician or a cardiologist. “We are dedicated to prevention and early detection,” said Chad Hoyt, M.D., cardiolo- gist, with The Cardiovascular Group of the Centra Stroobants Heart Center. “HeartA- ware is a simple yet effective tool in evaluat- ing a person’s risk for heart disease. The tool allows us to reach those individuals who may not be symptomatic—those that do not dis- play any outward symptoms of heart disease. It also educates people about heart disease and how to take steps in improving their health.” The nationally recognized Centra Stroobants
Heart Center offers a wide range of cardiac and vascular services provided by board-certified car- diologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. The cen- ter brings together state-of-the art technology, clinical trials, physician and clinician expertise, and measurable excellence focused on strong clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
