The ManWho Laughs to shoot in November EuropaCorp and Incognita Films plan a November shoot for French director Jean-Pierre Améris’ romantic drama The Man Who Laughs (L’Homme Qui Rit), which will star Gérard Depardieu. Améris’ credits include Romantics Anonymous.


FilmSharks snap up City FilmSharks International has closed a deal for the Brazilian film Our Home— The Astral City (Nosso Lar) with VideoVision for all rights in Africa. Sales chief Guido Rud also licensed rights to Amazonia Films for Venezuela for theatrical and video. Japan and Germany are in talks.


Abbass prepares debut

projects including Lemon Tree and The Visitor) wrote the screenplay with Ala Hlehel, Nadine Naous and Ghazi Albuliwi, based on Hlehel’s original script. Hafsia Herzi will star alongside Albuliwi and Abbass, among others. It follows a Palestinian family

Abu Dhabi names 11 funding winners The Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF) has announced the 11 projects chosen to receive support from its SANAD fund in the first application cycle this year. The projects, which won funding for development or post-production, include submissions from established Arab film-makers such as Lebanon’s Jocelyne Saab and Syria’s Hala Alabdallah, along with newcomers such as Safinez Bousbia, whose El Gusto will screen at ADFF in October.


Artefacto joins Filmed Imagination’s Dream Prince Artefacto Producciones’ Fernando Cortizo, the Spanish director of O Apostolo, has come on board Filmed Imagination’s 3D stop-motion animation film The Dream Prince, with shooting set to begin in autumn 2012. Daniel Dreifuss and Marius Haugan of Los Angeles-based Filmed Imagination are producing, along with Isabel Rey of Artefacto.
