UK independent distributor Trinity Entertainment has announced an X-rated label, Trinity X, launching with the release of Simon Rumley’s chillerRed, White & Blue. “Trinity X will take on much more risk-taking projects that may not sit very easily with exhibitors,” said Mark Sandell, Trinity co-director. Beta Cinema goes to Hell and beyond
BY GEOFFREY MACNAB German sales outfit Beta Cinema has snapped up international sales rights to four new projects, all in post-production. Among them is a new
version of the much-filmed Mark Twain classic, Tom Sawyer. This wi l l be directed by Hermine Hunt- geburth (The White Masai) with a cast including Louis Hofmann, Leon Seidel, Heike Makatsch and Benno Fürmann. The film is set for a November 2011 release in Germany through Majestic. Neue Schönhauser Film-
produktion co-produces wi th Majest ic Fi lm- produktion and HI Film Productions.
Beta has also taken on
Hell (working title), the fea- ture directing debut of Tim Fehlbaum. Executive pro- d u c e d b y Ro l a n d Emmerich, the dystopian sci-fi yarn is set in a near future where violent solar storms have dried up the Earth. The film, set for release in Germany in the autumn through Para- mount, stars Hannah Herzsprung, Stipe Erceg, Lars Eidinger, Angela Win- kler and Lisa Vicari. Another Beta acquisition
is love story Westwind by Robert Thalheim, about the romantic complications in the lives of 17-year-old twins from East Germany. It stars Friederike Becht,
Luise Heyer, Volker Bruch, Franz Dinda and Hans- Uwe Bauer. Also new on the Beta
slate is Shores Of Hope, the debut feature by student Oscar winner Toke Con- stantin Hebbeln. It is the story of two East German dock workers, played by Alexander Fehling and August Diehl, who dream of going to sea. Shores is pro- duced by UFA Cinema and Frisbeefilms. Among the films Beta
has brought to Cannes is Til Schweiger’s German box- office hitKokowaah. Its slate also includes
Agnieszka Holland’s In Darkness, which has been pre-sold to Sony in the US.
