• From July 2008 through June 2009, 817 million pounds of all types of mushrooms were produced in the U.S, with a value of $957 million in sales. • Annual production of agaricus (including button, crimini and portobella) mushrooms in the United States was 679 million pounds with a value of $909 million in sales. • There are a total of 285 mushroom growers in the United States.

Santa Clara County
• California ranks second in the nation in mushroom produc- tion, and more than 60% of those mushrooms are grown in Santa Clara and Monterey counties. • The Santa Clara Valley produces more than 20,000 tons of mushrooms with a total crop value of $50 million. • Primary local production is white, crimini and portobella varieties.
• Mushroom farms in Santa Clara County include: In Morgan Hill: Monterey Mushrooms, South Valley Mushrooms and Royal Oaks Mushrooms; in San Martin: B & D Mushrooms and San Martin Mushrooms; in Gilroy: Countryside Mushrooms and Global Mushrooms.
