A classic 36-foot Newman cruiser, fin- ished in 1977, was taken in on trade for a new boat. She has a V-berth, galley and head. Her engine is a 200-hp John Deere diesel with just 2,000 hours. She is for sale, but needs some work, however if interested give them a call. A 1986 Duffy 35 cruiser is also at Farrin’s and is for sale. She has a V-berth, head, handing locker, lots of drawers and ma- hogany decks down. Up in the shelter is the galley and a settee and table, which makes into a double berth.

There is also a wooden lobster boat at the shop. She is getting berths installed and her regular maintenance.

Also a H&H 29 is in for paint and gelcoat.

What a difference one year makes. Johns Bay Boat Company had little work last year and now there is a new 44-footer under construction, several spring repair jobs to do, and four more new boats on order. The boat under construction is being finished for a customer from Australia. She is 44 feet in length with a beam of 15 feet 3 inches. Presently they have finished the hull decks, and the trunk cabin and were getting ready to glass the decks and trunk cabin. Her accommodations include: master stateroom forward with head and separate shower, to

port an upper and lower berth, hanging locker and wood stove to starboard. Up in the shel- ter is the galley, settee and helm seating. She is powered with a 700-hp Yanmar diesel. She will be done this fall.

As soon as the weather gets warmer they will begin to haul some repair and regular maintenance customers. Most of these jobs will not take more than a week to complete. When the new 44-footer goes over there are four more boats on order. The first of these is a 38-footer, which they will begin this fall.

Ocean Pursuits in Rockland has been busy this winter.

Inside the shop is a Catalina 36, which suffered some damage following a ground- ing. They removed her keel and are replacing her keel bolts. They have replaced the drive train, including engine mounts, propeller and bearings. They are also doing some work on her electrical system and adding solar panels. They readied two boats for the Marion- Bermuda Race, which will start in June from Marion. One was a Morris 36 and the other a Freedom 36.

A Hinckley Pilot was in to have all her hardware rebidded, brightwork refinished and new electronics added.

A Mainship powerboat was in to have Stazo marine decking laid in the cockpit. She will then receive her regular maintenance and maybe new windows.

A Holland 38 cruiser is in for some cos- metic work on her cabin sides and aft. An Island packet is in for a new battery

system.

A Hinckley 36 Picnic boat is in for some repairs and paint on the hull and cabin top.

Over in Harborside at Seal Cove Boat

Yard they have been busy trying to get all the projects completed before summer arrives. TIMBER, now FAIR LADY from Castine, which was built at Johns Bay Boat Company back in the early ‘90s, was in for a major facelift. She has had all her brightwork redone, decks repaired as needed, pilothouse Awlgripped, topsides seams redone and then the topsides were faired and painted, and then added a bow thruster.

The 53-foot Chris Craft Conqueror AT- LAS came in for a new skeg and fore foot. She also had floor timbers replaced under the engine and aft.

A Vineyard Vixen was in for a rehab. She suffered from bad decks and was less than fair on the hull especially near the chainplates. A Hinckley Bermuda 40 was in to have her hull, deck and spars Awlgripped. A Cape Dory 34 had her gel-coat peeled

and refinished

There have been a number of engines re- moved and all have been repowered with Yanmar diesels. There has been a Freedom 40, Choey Lee 34, Swain 36 and a Sabre 38. Another Sabre 38 is in to make repairs following a collision with the bottom while out sailing. They had to remove the cabin sole and retab the floor timbers. They also had to drop the keel to make fiberglass repairs to her bottom.

They still find that they are doing the unusual. They fitted electric winches to a 30- foot S&S sloop with a bright hull. This classis got #40 stainless steel winches, but special mounts needed to be fabricated to make it look classic. They had Nautilus Marine in Trenton make them up and when installed looked like they belonged.

Spring is coming and there are about 210 storage customers who need to be ready when the season arrives.

Ellis Boat in Manset has three boats in the shop, either being finished out or re- stored.
