WHAT IS ANSI? ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute. The Institute oversees the creation, promulgation and use of thousands of standards and guidelines that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector, including work at height in General Industry and Construction. ANSI is the official U.S. representative to the International Organization for Stan- dardization (ISO).
WHAT DOES ANSI Z359 COVER? ANSI Z359 establishes performance criteria for the key equipment used in fall protection, fall restraint, and rescue after a fall.
The new ANSI Z359 takes a whole new approach in addressing the overall fall protection program rather than just equipment. Today, the equipment is addressed in the .1 document, but over time additional equipment is expected to be addressed in multiple individual documents that will specifically relate to sub-sections of the overall subject… ie, horizontal lifelines, positioning, rope access, etc.
