Welcome
On behalf of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), welcome to the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market 2011. Better known as FILMART, the 15th edition features a record of nearly 600 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions. Among them are more than 120 exhibitors from the Chinese mainland, where rich partnership opportunities exist for fi lm industry professionals.
About 5,200 buyers from more than 50 countries and regions are expected during the 21-24 March event. Over the four days, FILMART will host nearly 300 fi lm
screenings, as well as a range of seminars and networking sessions involving top industry experts from around the world.
New features at this year’s FILMART include a United States pavilion organised by the Independent Film & TV Alliance (IFTA) in partnership with the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Hong Kong is the fi rst fi lm and television market to host such a U.S. pavilion.
Other fi rst-time pavilions are being staged by Cambodia and a pan-European group represented by the European Film Promotion, along with a joint effort by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GMBH and the Roma Lazio Film Commission. FILMART also welcomes back pavilions from China, France, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and Vietnam.
Also new is the ‘Co-production Lab Hong Kong’, organised by Ateliers du Cinéma Européen (ACE) and Sinapses Asia Ltd, with the support of the HKTDC and the European Union’s Media International. About 20 experienced producers from Asia and Europe are taking part in the four-day, project-based workshop, which involves panel discussions, individual pitching and consulting and market presentations.
FILMART is one of the ten events at the month-long Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, the region’s foremost entertainment industry gathering. The seventh Expo once again brings together a world of fi lm, TV, digital entertainment and music.
I wish you all the best of business at FILMART 2011 and a rewarding stay in Hong Kong.
