A Sabre 38 is presently in the paint bay. She had some structural issues after being damaged in a hurricane. A quarter of her hull was recored and all the tabs needed to be reglassed in place. Once all the structural works is complete they will then Awlgrip the hull and deck.


A 21-foot Downeast powerboat is in the shop to have her house closed in. A 43-foot Pearson will be coming in to have her hull and deck Awlgripped. They also will do some interior painting. A J-40 will be getting a new autopilot and other instruments.

General Marine in Biddeford is finish- ing laying up a General Marine 36 hull for Clark Island Boat Works in St. George. They also have another General Marine 36 coming back. She was shipped out as a kit boat and the owner was going to finish, however the owner has decided to let them finish the boat. Also in the shop is an Eastern 31, which is getting stringers and bulkheads. The owner, who is from Massachusetts, also might have them put in the fore deck and windshield.


As for repair work they have a General Marine 26 coming in. She is a bass boat style and will be converted to a hardtop. Another General Marine 26 is coming in after her bilge pump failed and she sank. They will be replac- ing all the systems as needed.


Casey Yacht Enterprises in Freeport is presently working on a J-24. She is being prepped so that they can Awlgrip her topsides. They also had to replace some wet core and put on a racing bottom. A J-27 is in to have wet core replaced, a new racing bottom put on and have her topsides Awlgripped.


A Cape Dory 36 is in to have her deck refit. They will remove the deck hardware and then Awlgrip and varnish it. This will keep them busy until March.


A Jeanneau 38 will be in to have her engine removed and replaced with a rebuilt diesel this spring.


They also have a number of storage customers that will need some work done before they can go over this spring.


One of the busiest yards always is Johanson Boat Works in West Rockport. Their big project this winter has been restor- ing a Bunker & Ellis 42. The hull needed some minor work. They fastened the bolts in the stem, and replaced several frames and planks. There were deck issues and they replaced a number of frames. They also raised the house five inches and built a new house and shelter. Presently they are rebuilding the bulkhead and dash and the platform. The new platform is being constructed with Nyda core with a teak deck on top. They also installed two new Yanmar 180-hp diesels with Aquadrive shaft units. She will also get all new plumbing, wiring and electronics before going over-


Soon a Wesmac 38 hull will be arriving. She will be finished off as a pleasure boat with jet-drives powered by twin Cummins diesels. If that is not enough, they store about 60 boats and they all have some work to do before they can go over.


Atlantic Boat in Brooklin is under new ownership and some changes are being made.


Just after the new owner purchased the company they sold two boats. One was an Atlantic 35, which is being finished as a sportfisherman for a customer from Seattle, Washington. She will have a double berth forward, head with shower and galley down. In the salon she will sport a settee and helm seating. For power she will have a C-9 575-hp Caterpillar diesel.


Another 35 is going out as a kit boat to Maryland. This is just a hull and top will be shipped in February.


Atlantic Boat is doing more storage and repair and they have a couple of big projects this winter. In for repairs is a Hunter 40, which suffered some keel damage after hitting the bottom. They removed the keel and did a lot of glass repair. They then dried out the area and are now finishing up the glass work. They also had to make glass repairs to the rudder. She is scheduled to be finished in February. A BHM 32 is in to have her hull painted


and add two side doors to the shelter. This was a brokerage boat, which was recently sold and the owner wanted to make some changes before next season.


They have a BHM 36 coming in to have her hull and deck Awlgripped.


A 27-foot Zodiac is in to get a fiberglass enclosure and an electronic package added.


One project that has caught on is the challenge to area high schools from WoodenBoat magazine of Brooklin and Hewes & Company Marine Division of Blue Hill to build the St. Ayles skiffs. The response has been incredible. Dear Isle High School has finished building their frame, the moulds and stem are in place and the keel is under- way. Sumner High School has their frames done and are starting to install the moulds. Mount Desert High School, George Stevens Academy and Washington Academy will start their boats the last week of January. Another skiff was ordered by Peekskill, New York. Two other high schools are consider- ing building the St. Ayles skiffs.


Great Harbor Boat Works in Manset has removed the hardware on a 37 foot wooden powerboat, which they built several years ago. They are redoing the varnish and paint. The owner also wants to make the boat quieter, so they will be adding Soundown. They will also do her annual maintenance. The Friendship sloop HIERONYMOUS has a gloss deck and this has been changed to a non-skid deck in places. They also redid her trailboards and then will do her annual maintenance.


The next boat in the shop for annual maintenance will be NATHANIEL. Last year she received a new Nanni diesel, which makes her go along well.


They also have an eighth grade appren- tice who is helping Richard Stanley build a 19- foot sailboat.


H&H Marine in Steuben has several boats on order.


In the lay-up shop they have an Osmond 40, which will be shipped out as a hull and deck. She will be finished out as a commercial boat by Welfleet Marine on Cape Cod. An Osmond 42 has been order by a fisherman from Cutler. She will be finished out as a lobster boat powered with a C-15 Cater- pillar diesel. She is scheduled to be completed this spring.

An Osmond 36 will also be heading to a fisherman from Cutler. She will be powered with a 425-hp 9 litre John Deere diesel. She will be done this spring.


An Osmond 29 kit boat will be heading to Connecticut to be finished out as a lobster boat. The owner will be finishing this boat and will power her with a 230-hp 5.9 litre Cummins. This boat will go out later this winter.


An Osmond 42 kit boat will be shipped to Harrington. She is going to be finished out as a lobster boat and powered with they think an Iveco.


An Osmond 40 kit boat is heading to Cape Island Marine on Cape Cod. She is going to be finished out as a lobster boat. An Osmond 36 hull and top is heading to Pen Bay Boat in Sedgwick to be finished off as a lobster boat.


In April they will start on an Osmond 40, which is going to be finished out as a lobster boat for a fisherman from Cutler. Another Osmond 40 will be coming in from a fisherman on Vinalhaven this Febru- ary. They are going to refurbish the boat and also add three to four feet on her stern.
