The TVNZ Television Archive is New Zealand’s largest audiovisual production library housing locally produced programmes broadcast in New Zealand by TVNZ since the early 1960s, including news, current affairs, documentaries, sports, entertainment and drama programming.


In addition it houses the National Film Unit Collection of newsreels and documentaries produced from 1930 to the late 1970s.


The TVNZ Television Archive also holds the largest collection in the world of moving images recording the culture and heritage of New Zealand’s indigenous people the Maori. The TVNZ Television Archive protects and preserves images and sounds of New Zealand and the Pacific and the views and cultures of its people.


Size of library: The current collection holds around one million video items representing about 600,000 hours of audiovisual and music content.
