Special venues for special days

DEEPER

For that special occasion, whether there’s a wedding to be arranged or an anniversary to be celebrated in style, there are great venues in our region with gracious grounds and gardens to act as the perfect backdrop. So whether you want to go to a castle, an old mansion or a country house hotel, here’s a selection that will make your special day even more memorable.

Sudeley Castle

Sudeley Castle, home to Lord and Lady Ashcombe and the Dent Brocklehurst Family, has been described as ‘the most romantic Castle in England’. Nestled in the Cotswold Hills, Sudeley is a truly unique venue, with a rich history and over 1200 acres of grounds. Romantic ruins and award winning gardens wonderful to visit, they create a beautiful, dramatic backdrop for a wedding.

some of the foremost names in gardening, Lady Ashcombe has succeeded in creating the outstanding attraction seen today. Sudeley’s intriguing history is illustrated in the nine Gardens and none more so than the centre piece of the Queen’s Rose Garden, which was designed by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall on the original Tudor parterre. Other acclaimed garden designers such as Rosemary Verey and Charles Chesshire have added their unique visions. Now Sir Roddy Llewellyn has joined Sudeley as design consultant.

Plans are in place to launch a new Herbal Healing Garden walk in the summer of 2011, which is being overseen by Sir Roddy. This latest addition will inform visitors on the wisdom of nature and will see hundreds of new plants introduced over the next few years. This is one of many developments that are taking place to solidify Sudeley as the Cotswolds’ leading garden for visitors and as a wedding venue.

Sudeley Castle opens on 26th March for the 2011 season. For more information please visit www.sudeleycastle.co.uk.

Sudeley - romantic ruins and award winning gardens

In the original 15th century west wing of the Castle, which was formerly the kitchen range, then the stables and coach house and finally the banqueting hall, a number of fascinating exhibitions are also open daily, illustrating the history of Sudeley and its owners. The castle is open daily during the season, from March until October. For the children there is an adventure playground, and for a rest between viewing the house and the gardens there is a coffee shop in the atmospheric setting of the Banqueting Hall, a visitor and plant centre.

Throughout the year Sudeley provides a bespoke service in an exclusive setting. Whatever the theme or size of the wedding, this is a stylish, elegant and versatile venue for a most memorable day. The stunning gardens at Sudeley Castle set among the historic buildings are the work of Lady Ashcombe who has developed the gardens to world class status. The gardens won the HHA Christie’s Garden of The Year Award in 1996 and were voted as one of the top gardens to visit by Gardener’s World readers. Working with
