Victory lane renamed beasom stable By Ginny Nokes © 2011 Victory Lane Farm,

owned by Michael Beasom is now BEASOM STABLE. The name has changed but much remains the same. The thought brings back memories of this training facility that has been in the San Antonio area forever. Founded by Michael’s grandfather, Elton Cates who trained Saddlebred Horses back to the late 40’s. Elton and Beulah Cates built the huge barn we see now back in the 60s in San Antonio. As the city grew, it became apparent, they needed to move and in 1982, the big barn was moved and reassembled just outside of Boerne. Elton loved training Saddlebred horses while Beulah was busy giving riding lessons. I would guess this is one of the oldest training facilities still going strong in the area.

Elton died in 1993.

Beulah was left with a barn full of show horses and a business to run. Michael and his mother Judy moved

in to help. Michael had been riding since he was five years old. I recall seeing him riding a big bold moving horse in a class of adults where he put a great ride on his horse, and he was jsut a little kid! We recall him following his grandfather around soaking up all the knowledge that was there for him. Judy told me “We called him “daddy’s shadow”. Beulah had a horse accident that hastened the need for him to start taking more of an interest in the operation.

What a tremendous task

for a young man still in High School. Responsible for a barn full of horses many in training & showing. Judy mentioned those people that had been with Cates Training Stable way back when. Jack and Deanne Pool, Dr. Stacy Rust (took lessons from Beulah years ago and now has 5 horses in training) Bill and Joanna Been, Stephany Street. Another who took lessons and now has a daughter

back riding at the stable, Linda Lewis Toledo boarded her horse with them in San Antonio and made the move to Boerne. Terry Carter has been boarding her horses there for ages. And the list goes on. The name has changed

and rightly so. Michael is now owner and trainer, Beulah, his grandmother, still remains a part of the operation. She sees to it that Michael visits her place for a hot breakfast every morning and fixes his lunch. She also still gives a lesson now and then when needed. One could write a book

about the family. Michael, Megan, Beulah, Judy and the whole gang work to make it all happen. The business has grown; more shows, great horses and loyal friends who are a part of the family that started it all.

Spud

“Man is this a nice horse” quote Pam. Spud is a beautiful 12-year-old Paint. He is the old fashioned good looking QH type that is built to work and to be sound and safe. Spud stands 15 hands and weighs a good 1200 lbs. Spud has passed his evaluation protocol with flying colors. If you want a good strong sound gentle horse to ride the trails, do some ranch work and just “look good” this horse fits the bill.

We’ve cared for your horses for years,

Bucky is a young extremely quiet, well trained, registered Quarter Horse. We finished him this week and he has turned out to be a gem. He has passed all the evaluation protocol with flying colors. One of the things we do with younger horses is NOT ride them for a week to make sure that they really do have the attitude we want. Pam got him out, stepped up and off she and Emily went for a trail ride. He is kind, smart and extremely safe. We have had him through all our tests and used him to- day to take a small child out on her first trail ride. Bucky was the horse Pam used to lead her. He is just amazing and Pam said “this is one of the best horses I have ever ridden”..wow..Before we purchased him he was used as a turn back horse. He has a great handle, and a good stop. The claim to fame we

Count Little Bucky

have found is his quiet mind and his amazing attitude. He is 5 years old and stands 14 3 hands. As he finishes bodying out, he will be an absolutely gorgeous horse. He comes from good reining stock in his breeding. We recommend him for any rider that wants a quiet minded young horse that will suite you for years to come.

If the horse doesn’t suit your needs, we’ll trade out for another of our fine horses! Please check our web site to

view them and review our buyer quarantee program.
