Monetary & Banking Research Institute (MBRI) Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran

CALL FOR PAPERS

The 21th Annual Conference on Monetary and Exchange Rate Policy Organized by

Monetary and Banking Research Institute

Date: 17-18 May, 2011 Tehran-Iran

Recent economic reforms and the setup of financial supervisory systems in a number of countries have challenged both the conduct and the strategy of monetary policy in different ways. What is the most effective way of conducting monetary and exchange rate policies for the Central Bank of Iran given the removal of energy subsidies? Taking into account the lessons from the recent world financial crisis, should monetary policy give more weight to financial indicators in its assessment of macroeconomic conditions? Do the financial, monetary and macroeconomic statistics issued by the Central Bank of Iran help to detect the signs of economic fluc- tuations? How do the monetary and supervisory policies affect the macroeconomic stability? Will the objectives of monetary policies be affected and if so, how? And finally, how does the Islamic banking paradigm meet the Central Bank’s need for effective monetary supervision instruments along with those for micro- and macro-prudential supervision?

The conference sets the stage for monetary and banking experts together with academics to present and exchange their views on these questions.
